1995 ford explorer review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. The leader of the pack gets a new personality. introductionthe ford explorer has, in a relative flash, gone from being merely a replacement for the bronco ii to becoming a bona-fide model leader. With more than 300,000 sales annually over the past two years, the explorer has taken over the lead from the chevy/gmc twins and the jeep cherokee/grand cherokee in the market’s compact sport/utility segment.  it has done so with a combination of crisp good looks, a larger cargo capacity than the competition, a long wheelbase (just under 112 in. The powertrain remains the 4. 0-liter v6, with either a standard 5-speed manual or optional 4-speed automatic overdrive.  engine cooling has been upgraded. A new electronic automatic overdrive transmission with full electronic control of shifting and converter lockup - the a4lde - is standard on most models and includes a brake/shift interlock system.  the entire nose-end of the explorer is new, including bumper, hood, fenders and oversize wraparound front lamps, all highlighted by an aggressive, large-grid grille. The extremely popular 4-door version has a chrome grille and bumper treatment, and the more off-road oriented, 2-door version uses body color on the grille and black on the bumper. Fender flares on both are much more prominent than on the ’94.  new safety features are in abundance for 1995, including 4-wheel disc brakes with standard anti-lock brakes (abs), a standard dual airbag system, non-motorized adjustable-height shoulder belts, rear-seat head restraints, and a center high-mounted stoplight.  the ’95 explorer comes in several versions: 2-door xl, sport and expedition, and 4-door xl, xlt, eddie bauer and limited. All models are available in 2-wheel drive or 4-wheel drive.  the sporty 2-door expedition model replaces the 2-door eddie bauer. Its special equipment package consists of 16-in. Chromed steel wheels and p255 tires as standard equipment, along with wheel-lip moldings, integrated fog lamps and standard step bars.  for 1995, a short-and-long-arm (sla) fully independent front suspension takes the place of the twin i-beam. In automatic 4wd, additional torque is transferred to the front wheels as required by driving conditions.  the explorer has 15-in. Wheels and tires as standard equipment, with a larger, 16-in. P255 tire standard for the eddie bauer and expedition models.  all explorer hoods have been fitted with pneumatic hood-lift assist struts in place of prop rods. The windshield wipers have been upgraded for improved wipe quality and reduced noise, and there’s an optional interval rear-wiper system for the tailgate glass. A battery-saver feature has also been added to shut down headlamps after 10 minutes if they have inadvertently been left on.  an automatic ride control system is standard on explorer limited 4x4 models. A 4-wheel, variable-damping air-shock system developed by ford truck and ford electronics, in cooperation with the monroe shock-absorber folks, constantly senses suspension movement, steering, braking and acceleration motions. They’re a great deal easier to use than the previous small-chassis radio controls.  the explorer’s floor pan mounts a revised slide bar for the seat tracks. And there is an additional 12-volt power point for electronic accessories.  an optional console between the front bucket seats contains cupholders, a message center, a small storage compartment, a tissue dispenser, and ashtray, a set of rear radio controls, a designated space for the optional 6-cd changer, and space for an optional ford electronics flip-out, voice-actuated cellular phone.  one version of the optional center console even has a hot-and-cold air blower with upper and lower registers. The front suspension has eliminated a lot of the old explorer’s annoying ride habits, especially the pitching and rocking we used to experience at freeway speeds. It’s quiet and relatively plush (for a truck) with a bit of body roll in sharp turns.  the 4. 0-liter v6 is certainly no substitute for the jeep grand cherokee’s optional v8 or gm’s 200-hp v6. Still, ford’s engine copes with the heavyweight explorer’s bulk without straining, though it is still a bit grindy and noisy. The automatic transmission shifts smoothly, quietly and positively.  the rack-and-pinion steering is a good deal more precise than the old system, and it doesn’t require a lot of correction in freeway driving. Ford has given the customer all of that and more with the 1995 version, thanks to its fresh appearance, standard abs and dual airbags, sla front suspension, and rack-and-pinion steering.  the 1995 explorer’s price will most likely reflect all of this added standard equipment, plus adjustments for inflation and labor/materials costs, and a healthy dollop for profits.  it’ll be interesting to see how the competition - the completely new sport/utilities from gm and the v8 option from jeep - will challenge this new explorer. The 1995 version is yet another winner from the truck mavens at ford. assembled inlouisville, kentucky. 1998 ford expedition review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Big, handsome and hard to get. introductionford has touted itself as the 'better idea' company in years past. Its biggest better idea to date, the massive expedition, may well be considered a best idea, judging from the horde of cash-in-hand customers queuing up at ford dealerships. Those wishing to purchase a navigator should expect to wait for awhile to get one.  why is the expedition so successful? We think its success goes beyond the current enthusiasm for large sport-utilities. And we think it goes beyond the shortage of contenders; only the gmc and chevrolet suburbans compete in this big size class. We think the expedition is selling like hot cakes because it does everything it was designed to do and it does it well. Its good looks certainly don't hurt, either.  this year does not bring major changes to the expedition because it is only in its second year of production. And the folks at ford wouldn't want to change a thing. In fact, the only things setting the 1998 version apart from its predecessor are the availability of some additional paint colors. The expedition has also been certified as a low-emissions vehicle in states that have adopted california's tougher emissions regulations. walkaroundthe stylists at ford took a sensible approach when they set out to give shape to the expedition. They already had two winners to their credit--the f-150 pickup and the explorer. So they borrowed the best elements from each to create another success. From nose to windshield, the expedition shares sheet metal with the f-150. No panels interchange between expedition and explorer, but the resemblance is unmistakable.  this combination of ingredients works well. The expedition is handsome, with a sloping hoodline and rounded front end that reflect attention paid to aerodynamic design. It's a design that pays off with improved fuel efficiency and reduced wind noise. As a matter of necessity, the sides and back are shaped more for utility than style. Clever use of trim and rounded corners provides some visual definition, however.  stretching more than 17 feet from nose to tail, the expedition is certainly no compact. And there's no way to disguise that. Gm's suburban is even longer, adding a foot-and-a-half to the total. With little demand for plain, entry-level vehicle in this class, ford equips the xlt well and the eddie bauer even better. Differences between xlt and eddie bauer are confined to paint and trim. Two seating configurations are available. Ordered with front bucket seats and a center bench, the expedition can comfortably haul five passengers. Ordered with the front full-width seat and center bench makes room for six passengers. Well-padded chairs provide comfortable seating.  adding the optional third-row bench provides seating for two more passengers--three if they are small. First- and second-row occupants get separate heating, ventilation and air conditioning controls; a third set of controls for the third seat is optional.  a curved dashboard houses instruments and controls where they can easily be reached. The eddie bauer roof console adds a digital display that provides the date and time, average fuel economy, compass headings, along with a switch for the power swing-out rear quarter windows.  attractive and durable materials are used throughout the expedition's cabin. Soft-touch coverings are applied to switches and door panels. Surprisingly, its bulk doesn't make it especially difficult to drive. Speed-sensitive variable-assist power steering works in the driver's favor by keeping steering effort down to a reasonable level. Brake pedal feel is light, yet precise. Lots of large windows, along with big mirrors, make it easy to see in all directions. Extra care and attention is required when maneuvering in close-quarters, however.  the ride quality is good, though it is not as soft as that of a traditional family sedan or wagon. An advantage of the expedition's long wheelbase is a resistance to pitching over freeway expansion joints and other irregularities. Built into the system is a one-inch increase in ride height. While serious rock-climbing is not suggested, occasional forays off the beaten path can be undertaken without fear of being left stranded. They are identical save for displacement. They are smooth and quiet. We recommend the larger unit, which delivers extra pulling power for full passenger loads and heavy trailers. Its blend of strength, refinement, comfort, good road manners and exceptional finish quality is not matched by the suburban, at least for now. The expedition will haul almost anything one might put in a pickup truck, assuming the owner is willing to soil the plush carpet. It will carry a large family in limousine-like splendor, pull a trailer or explore places beyond pavement's end. Power Windows✔ Bucket Seats✔ Air Conditioning✔ Alloy Wheels

2014 ford taurus review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. The front-wheel or all-wheel drive taurus is powered by a 290-hp 3. 5-liter direct injection v6 engine and six-speed automatic transmission with selectshift manual gear control. The high performance sho is powered by a twin-turbo version of the 3. 5-liter v6, it produces 365-hp and channels that through standard all-wheel drive and a paddle-shifted six-speed automatic transmission. There are many kinds of technology features available such as cross traffic alert, collision warning, active park assistance, mykey parental features, sync, capless refueling, touch-pad keyless entry, adaptive cruise control, blind spot detection, rain-sensing wipers and intelligent keyless entry. After the 2013 model year refresh, the taurus carries over into 2014 with two new exterior colors and some extra standard equipment for the limited trim in the name of heated and cooled seats, power tilt and telescope steering column and intelligent keyless entry with push-button start.
